[There's the sound of metal on metal, and then an odd clicking, like heels on cement. The singing is low and soft, like she doesn't want to be heard]

The itsy-bitsy spider went up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out,
Up came the sun and dried up all the rain,
And the itsy-bitsy spider went up the spout again.

[There's a pause, and a breath.]

[Her voice is technically very nice, but there's an odd flatness about it.]

I didn't say that. It's not that simple, though, with curses.

No? What makes it complicated?

[adamantined]

What doesn't make it complicated? Curses are basically designed to complicate things. It's a rare curse that just lets you run around without any kind of consequences later. Even the harmless ones can have an effect on people, just depending on what kind of person they are.

[synanthrope]

He was compelled to marry someone else. What does that have to do with you?

[adamantined]

If you're asking me whether or not everything's settled with him, obviously you've got to have some idea.

[synanthrope]

I know you were upset. That doesn't mean it makes sense.

[adamantined]

Why do you think that doesn't make sense?

[synanthrope]

Did he do it specifically to hurt you?

[adamantined]

Just because someone doesn't set out with the intention of hurting you or pissing you off, that doesn't mean both of those things won't happen as a consequence. It's not necessarily about that anyway. Anyone will tell you that.

[synanthrope]

Even if he does hurt you intentionally, that's only a reason to forget about him.

[There's a pause, but it doesn't seem quite unintentional]

If you sleep with someone else, it's not really a comment on your relationship with him. But if you stab him in the stomach, that would be reason to be upset.

You're always curious. Could you forget someone who hurt you intentionally? That's the kind of thing that tends to make them memorable.

I still just don't understand how you don't think me being upset makes sense.

Because being upset with him for being cursed is like being upset with him for the sky being blue.
