[ Alex always finds Nigel particularly annoying when he gets like this, when he starts thinking that he can make demands and that Alex will follow them. Alex follows them only when he chooses to.

Right now, Alex thinks, Nigel is expecting him to be stubborn so instead, he chooses not to be and swipes the device out of Nigel's hand. ]

[ Nigel's smile has changed shape (less challenging, more sated) when Alex shoves the comm back at him, carelessly enough that it almost clatters to the sidewalk between them. ] She's quite something, Jack, even you'd agree, [ he notes eventually, his stride purposeful. ]

[ Alex lets Nigel lead since, evidently, Nigel has somewhere in mind that he wants to go and Alex couldn't actually care less. In between his own turns with the device, his hands go back into his pockets. ]

I doubt that.

You don't see it now, but you will, Jack. You will.

[ Despite whatever flaws of character Nigel Colbie has (or perhaps had), there was one thing that he did and did well, and that was love his mother. Arguably, he loved his mother too much, which is why he'd spared a moment's worth of regret for her when it came to the business of lopping of her head. Still, it says something (and something profound), when Nigel tells Jack: ]

It'd would have been a waste if she'd lost her head. I'm glad I never took it.

Eternity, a waste? [ Alex says in a voice that is filled with heavy sarcasm on the word eternity and while wearing a face that says that all of this smacks of sentimentality, which is something he has little taste or use for personally. But the question is still genuine, at least a little, because Alex wouldn't ever have expected this particular useless sentimentality from Nigel. ]

[ Nigel's expression sours at Jack's words. ]

Don't be difficult, [ he says sharply and then allows his face to fall back to its usual amused placidity. ] She's not be wielded. I learned that the last time I was here.

[ Then the beginnings for another smile, complicit in the way it's offered to Jack. ] Saya has her own eternity to inherit.

All right, Nigel, [ Alex says, and he barely rolls his eyes over it. As much as he might be inclined towards picking fights where ever he finds them, he's learned that he's not particularly interested in fighting with Nigel over eternity things. It's a tedious process of treading through the same delusions over and over, and it ultimately has limited use. ] I'm not going to try to hurt her.

[ Although the idea is amusing. ]

She may actually enjoy the suggestion, I'm not sure. [ He waves his hand through the air before his device buzzes and his pocket and he goes to fish it out with the his long fingers. Once he reads the message sent to him, Nigel laughs and licks his lips — a decidedly base gesture for a boy who has, for all appearances, far more manners than Jack ever will. ] She's offered an outing. Or at least implied one.

[ Alex is not the sort to do skeptical finger quotes but if he was, he would make them now. ]

An "outing."

[ Nigel redeposits his communicator into his pocket and then inclines his head towards Jack, his eyes intent with the sheen that comes only at the heights of his very favorite delusions. ]

You won't hurt Saya. [ It's not a reiteration of Jack's statement, it's an assertion of his own. ] Would you like to hurt someone else instead?

[ Alex has been following Nigel's conversation with Saya closely enough to have some suspicions about this. ]

For this friend of yours?

[ Nigel laughs like Jack has just said something quite silly. ]

With this friend of ours. Jack.

[ Alex just looks at Nigel. Honestly, he sees nothing very funny about any of this so far. ]

We'll see about that.
